Episode 108 - Carolyn Burke
Carolyn L Burke, MA, CISSP has an extensive history in information security. She founded and managed FSC Internet, a network security service provider, from start-up in 1993 to approx. 50 employees in 2002, when she left to form an information security policy consulting firm, Integrity Incorporated, and complete the book Integrity Incorporated on information security models. Ms. Burke also led Security Guidance Initiatives for Microsoft Canada.
The subject of a former US News and World Report cover story in 1996 for her online initiatives and the security expert for CP24’s HomePage, Ms. Burke currently sits on several corporate boards, and is actively involved in the community including as President of TIDA, Advisor to the Board at DigitalEve Canada, curriculum advisor to Centennial College's Faculty of eCommerce, advisor to the Internet Council of Canada, and York University Graduate Studies Alumni Advisory Committee Founding Member. In 2003 Ms Burke was the 2003 President’s Award recipient from (ISC)2. Carolyn also recently became privacy spokesperson for AIMS (Association of Internet Marketing and Sales) and sits on their Security and Privacy Committee. Ms Burke holds degrees in Linguistics and Philosophy of Science, based on studies at University of Waterloo, York University, and Carnegie-Mellon University.
Ms Burke volunteers for the United Way-sponsored Dixon Hall mentoring program, and works to encourage and support young women who choose careers in IT and business. She is also (ISC)2 Exam Supervisor for the Greater Toronto Area, building security awareness within the IT community by furthering security and privacy education. She is a consulting member of the Consultant Registry, an international consulting consortium of senior telecom and security professionals.
